Tips Make it YOUR wedding, not someone else's, even if that someone is close to you. Picture your wedding day the way it was in your five-year-old-little-girl dreams, and make it that!
Caterers: Never choose a caterer without sampling the food. If they don't mention you trying their food, you may want to wander about the food they're serving. More often than not, a caterer would invite you to a wedding they're doing or simply to come by and sample some food; always take them up on this offer. Don't give in if they insist upon certain foods-again, it's your wedding! The caterer should set up your tables-centerpieces, silverware, glasses, etc. Videographers: Make sure they offer unlimited time and that they do their videos on digital DVD's. Liquor: If you have to book a separate liquor vendor from your caterer or your reception hall, be sure that they deliver the liquor and that you don't have to pick it up. Make sure they set it up. Ask, if they will pick up the left over liquor, even if it is an extra fee. Believe me, you won't want anybody having to return the liquor the night of, or the morning after your wedding. It will end up gone at the post-wedding party! Also, make sure they reimburse you for all the alcohol that isn't consumed. Reception Halls: Unless money is not an object, be sure that a hall doesn't just charge you to use the hall! The fee should at least include tables, chairs, and probably, linens. Don't let them charge you extra to bring in outside catering or liquor. Make sure you are allowed to have alcohol in their building. Some halls don't have liquor licenses, which is when you are required to bring in an outside liquor vendor. Some halls give discounts if you use their centerpieces, linens, glassware, silverware, and bartenders - be sure to ask! Ceremony Sites: Be sure the site allows the decorations you desire. Some sites won't allow decorations that are too high because they can set off the fire alarm. Other sites may not allow lit candles. Make sure they will let you nail, tack, or tape on the walls-whichever you need. Be sure that you can bring live flowers in. See if they let you use sequence, bubbles, birdseed, or confetti, as a lot of places have extra fees associated with things like this. Also, see if they allow a receiving line-many do not because they have other events at the site later on in the day and do not want the traffic. Some sites, particularly churches, will use their existing cameras to videotape the ceremony, thereby saving you some money! Bands/DJ's: Never book based on the recommendation of a friend. Make sure you listen to the music ahead of time, particularly if it's a band you're hiring. Everyone's rendition of "Just the Way you Look Tonight" is a little bit different and you may not like the way a certain band performs it. Make sure the band or DJ dresses accordingly. Most will either wear a tuxedo or a suit, whichever you prefer. Make sure they play what you want them to play. They should have you fill out forms that specify certain songs not to play, songs to play, and a general genre that you prefer.
Florists: Flowers are probably going to be one of the major expenses of your wedding. This should be an area that you allow yourself a lot of fun. Pick what you want and have as many as you want! Just be sure that you allow room in your budget for them. Tuxedos: This one's for the boys! One area you can easily save money in your wedding is the tuxedo department. It's customary for the groomsmen to pay for their own tuxes, and if you use certain vendors, the groom doesn't have to pay for his tux rental! If you are renting your tux, make sure you don't have to return it till two days after your wedding, and make your best man do it, of course!
